Together Inc., the Omaha Farmers Market, and the Gretchen Swanson Center for Nutrition have set up an event for Food Day, a nationwide celebration to advocate for healthy, affordable food produced in a sustainable, humane way. On Sunday, Oct. 23, Food Day Omaha will be held at Aksarben Village.
The farmers market held there weekly throughout the harvest season will extend its season one extra week to be open for this event. The regulars of the market will be joined by food access, healthy eating and sustainable agriculture groups offering information, demonstrations and hands-on children’s activities. For more information, go here.
The outdoor farmers market runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. After you’re done with your shopping, head over to Aksarben Cinema where the movie “Good Food” will be shown at 1:30 p.m. The movie kicks off the cinema’s “Give Us Your Food; We’ll Give You Ours” partnership with Together Inc. Beginning Oct. 23, anyone who brings a non-perishable food item to Aksarben Cinema on Sundays between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. will receive a coupon for a free small popcorn (redeemable that day at the concession stand).
Maybe I’ll see you there!
