What to Wear in a Triathlon (For the Ladies)

OK,  so you signed up for your first triathlon. Now, on to important matters: What are you going to wear? Not to sound girly, there, but clothes for a triathlon are a little different than any other race. And, being a woman, you might also be concerned about having enough support out on the course.

I got most of my clothing tips from the “Slow Fat Triathlete” by Jayne Williams. I loved (and still do love) her tips, her sense of humor and the fact that she wrote to novices, not seasoned athletes. If you’re curious about triathlons, check out this book. Not saying anyone is slow or fat here, but I’m saying if you’re new to this sport, this is a great beginners book.

However, yesterday I came across an excellent site for the not-stick-thin women out there. This is THE site to check out if you actually have a chest or you’ve got a little junk in the trunk. It’s in-depth look at tri clothes for plus-size women, what to wear and what not to wear (skip the undies). She even goes so far as to give you brand names and links to buy the stuff (prices may be different now – the post is two years old). Read the comments to get additional tips, including where to shop and what not to buy if you’re on a budget.

Don’t let something simple like clothing be a stumbling block in your path to becoming a triathlete.

Thanks for the link! Just to let you know, there is also a post from earlier this summer that you might find helpful – and all the links on the right rail should either take you to retailers for women who have some extra baggage – or direct to the items themselves.
