Let’s start with some races first. The UNO Try-Athlon is a non-competitive triathlon designed to – take a guess – get you to “try” a triathlon. See race info here. It’s on May 1.
I’m a fan of these non-competitive triathlons, as they are good introductions to the sport without the intimidation factor. They are also great because you can have your kids participate with you.
I’ve never done this particular “try-athlon,” but I did an outdoor one last year and had a lot of fun. That’s right. Triathlons can be fun. I said it.
The next race is the Lucky Bucket 7K Trail Run on May 14. Read more about it here. It’s on a Saturday night and this four-mile race includes at “beer stop” on Mile 2. While four miles doesn’t seem like much of a challenge to some, it’s held at Quarry Oaks Golf Course, so expect some rolling hills.
They cap this race at 2,000 and I’m almost certain it will fill up, so if you’re interested, sign up ASAP. Lucky Bucket beer and live music is promised for the post-race party. I’d be there, if you know, I wasn’t going to be 22 weeks pregnant at that point.
I know there are more races in the near future. Please post links to them on this blog!
Here’s a race-related event that’s only for the ladies. On Thursday, April 21, Team in Training Nebraska will hold the Nike Women’s Marathon Preview Party Soiree at Soaring Wings Winery. Find out about this women-only race, drink some wine, have some dessert and maybe win a prize.
Now, if you’ve ever been considering doing a race, this sounds like a good one. Word on the street (OK, it was published here) is that the race includes a “coat check” to drop your warmups at 2.5 miles; a “pedi-care” station for blister treatment or a change of socks; a Ghirardelli chocolate stop; and a Tiffany’s necklace given to you at the finish by a fireman dressed in a tux.
The chocolate is enough for me, but throw in a Tiffany’s necklace? That’s some serious race swag.
In case you’re wondering, the race IS open to men. The race is open to 20,000 runners/walkers, a quarter of which are Team in Training members. For race details, go here.
