About a week ago, I wrote about Joe D’Amico, the self-proclaimed McRunner (read story here). He had a goal of eating only at McDonald’s for 30 days leading up to the L.A. Marathon. He wasn’t promoting the fast food chain, he did it as a promotional stunt for a fundraiser for a worthy cause.
Well, in case you were wondering, he not only finished the marathon without upchucking a Big Mac and shake, he finished it by setting a PR (personal record). He finished in 2 hours, 36 minutes and 14 seconds. Hat’s off to that guy.
Here’s a follow up to a Runner’s World piece that had previously been written about D’Amico.
The shocking thing of it all? He actually lost some body fat and his cholesterol levels improved! Does that say something about the wonders of running or that there are actually decent choices at McDonalds?
In total, he raised about $27,000 for the Ronald McDonald House through this stunt.
Makes you wonder what you could do to have similar results for the charity of your choice? Anyone thinking a Taco Bell-fueled triathlon season? Maybe a KFC-powered century ride? Mmm?
