A Not-So-Fat Tuesday

Mardi Gras is this Tuesday. Anyone thinking of celebrating (hey, any excuse for a party, right)?

If you’ve got a party in the works, and you haven’t made the menu yet, you can celebrate the day of pure indulgence without blowing your diet. Several websites offer Mardi Gras recipes promising to keep your waistline safe and your palate happy.

Eatingwell.com goes the colorful route, offering purple, green and gold hued recipes (as well as some requisite Cajun cuisine). Check it out here.

Tasteofhome.com, the website of a cookbook I own that isn’t really known for its restraint in the calorie department, offers some other healthy recipes here. These are reader-suggested recipes, so you know at least one person loves the dish.

What’s Mardi Gras without King’s Cake? The Healthy Cooking Blog with Holly Clegg offers an easy-to-make slimmed-down version of the cake here.

This food sounds nice, you say, but Mardi Gras is about booze. Fine (you drunk). If you want to go authentic, here are five cocktails that are traced back to Naw’lins. Limit yourself to trying just one of these and you can forget about any guilt of overindulgence.

Laissez les bon temps rouler!
