Meet Belgian Stefan Engels. He just finished 365 marathons in 365 consecutive days. That’s 9,569 miles for those keeping track.
Good lord. I cannot even begin to imagine tackling this feat. But, friends, it can be done.
He talked to NPR about his yearlong quest on Monday.
The big question is why. Engels said he did it as an experiment, to see if it could be done. He took a rather scientific approach to running, it sounds like. He wanted to see if the mind and the body could handle it.
His other reason? To inspire people. To show people that, yes, something this extreme can be done. The human body is amazing, isn’t it?
Engels has managed to make an entire world feel like a bunch of slackers, hasn’t he? He said he wanted people to realize that they had no excuse for not trying to run a 5K when he has shown a human being is capable of 365 marathons in a year.
His message should be remembered: It’s possible. Make a goal. Do something special with your life.
